What bras to wear if you have pendulous breasts?

Here at Inner Secrets Lingerie, we pride ourselves on providing expert advice through our professionally trained corsetieres, who are in-store to help you find the perfect bra. Pendulous breasts refer to breasts that have a lower nipple position than other breast types. If you have pendulous breasts, you may find that some bra styles are uncomfortable or don’t fit well. We’ve put together a list of bra types that you might be interested in trying out.

  1. Full Coverage Bras

Full coverage bras are an excellent option for women with pendulous breasts because they provide the most coverage and support. Because these bras are designed with a high centre gore, it helps to keep the breasts separated and in place. Additionally, full coverage bras often have broader straps going into a wider U-shaped back band.  The back band is important to hold and distribute the weight of the breasts evenly and provide additional support.

Here are a few reasons why full cup bras are a suitable bra to wear:

  1. Even weight distribution: Full cup bras are designed to distribute the weight of the breasts evenly across the chest.  When the correct full cup bra size is worn, this shape helps to reduce strain on the shoulders and can help to prevent neck discomfort and pain.
  2. Supportive design: Full cup bras are designed to hold the bust and their wider straps and back bands all contribute to providing additional support for the breasts.
  3. Reduced bouncing: Full cup bras are designed to minimize movement, which can be helpful for women who experience discomfort or pain due to their breasts bouncing during physical activity. This can also help to reduce the risk of breast tissue damage over time.
  4. Natural and Flattering shape: Full cup bras offer a more natural shape for the breasts, which can be more flattering for some women. They can also help to prevent spillage.

It is however important to be properly fitted by one of our experienced corsetieres, so you are assured of a fit that feels most comfortable and supportive for your own unique needs.

We recommend the Bestform Pampelune 14453 or Sans Complex Arum 70564 for perfect fitting full coverage bras.

  1. Balconette Bras

Balconette bras provide lift and support without adding bulk. They typically have a balcony shape cup making them lower in cup coverage compared to other bra styles.  This shape helps to lift the breasts and create a more flattering silhouette. Additionally, the cups on balconette bras are often designed with underwire and moulded padding to help provide additional support and lift. We recommend Andora 131343 or Delice 12×314.

Women with pendulous breasts do have quite a few options and finding the right one may take some trial and error. Full coverage bras including minimizer bras, as well as a variety of balconette bras with good support are excellent options for women with pendulous breasts, as they are designed to provide the necessary support and create a more flattering silhouette. Remember, the most important thing is to find a bra that fits well as any bra will fail if the size is not correct.

We offer complimentary fittings at all three of our stores, where our professionally trained corsetieres will assist in fitting you into a variety of bras to find the style that is perfect for you. If you cannot make it in-store, book a virtual fitting.
